WCW SATURDAY NIGHT RETRO SOUNDOFF

And we are BACK for another look back at WCW Saturday Night. This week it is the episode from April 20th (insert stoner joke here), 1996.

This week’s episode was sponsored by Armor All Protectant. Do people still use that stuff on their car? Did anyone ever?

Two shows back and the intro still feels like the start of a Sci Fi show and not a wrestling show. They’re recapping the nitro from the past week where Macho Man was further going MAD and was handcuffed.

Back with Tony and Dusty again telling us it will only be a 1 hour episode this week. Building to Slamboree and Lethal Lottery coming up in a couple weeks.

MEN AT WORK (CHRIS KANYON & MIKE WINNER) VS. AMERICAN MALES (SCOTTY RIGGS & BUFF BAGWELL)

Who’s better than Kanyon? Not yet? They look like they just got back from a Village People audition facing a team that look like they just got done working at Chippendales.
Is Chris Kanyon pretending to fix the ring because his gimmick is a handyman?
Tony and Dusty are trying to play Kanyon up as not caring about his partner or the match so it could be the beginning of Kanyon moving to his other gimmicks.
They used a measuring tape and Kanyon still missed Bagwell by a longshot which leads to American Males getting the pinfall victory.

We’re in the back with Mean Gene interviewing Macho man about what happened on Nitro the past monday. I miss hearing him cut promos especially when he is playing a mad man.

Now Mean Gene is announcing a team for Lethal Lottery with Scott Steiner and Pitbull vs. Booty Man and Ric Steiner. “Luck” of the draw has brothers against each other. What are the odds?

BOOTY MAN W/ BOOTY BABE VS. UNANNOUNCED MASKED JOBBER

Booty Man comes in and gets the squash victory almost instantly. Not a bad thing because I don’t have to look at those terrible gear Beefcake is wearing.
Tony is interviewing Booty Man after his victory about Hogan saving Kimberly on Monday. And he talks about his lethal lottery draw teaming with Rick Steiner at Slamboree.

Mean Gene promoting the hotline and the hot details of Miss Elixabeth, Ric Flair and Randy Savage! Get your parents permission!

COL. PARKER W/ DICK SLATER VS. MADUSA – NO DQ MATCH

So we have to get another match between Madusa and Colonel Parker again after that debacle from the previous week?
Dick Slater grabbed Madusa by the hair and Parker takes advantage. THey are actually treating these two as equals until Parker leaves and gets counted out. More Garbage like last week from these two.

Every time I hear the old promo talking about where the Big Boys play I can only think of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

Tony and Dusty are now recapping the Hogan angle from Nitro before cutting to the footage of Nitro. They show Nasty Boys vs. Public ENemy. Hogan taking on Giant and Flair with Sting and Luger trying to make the save.

FIRE AND ICE (SCOTT NORTON & ICE TRAIN) VS. THE GAMBLER & MAXX MUSCLE

The debut of Fire and Ice on Saturday Night apparently. First I’m seeing anything of Scott Norton before seeing him in the nWo later on.
This match looks like it could be billed as Roid Rage.
Fire and Ice get the eventual easy win in a squash match to help put them over.

THE PUBLIC ENEMY (ROCCO ROCK & JOHNNY GRUNGE) VS. RICK & SCOTT STEINER

Public Enemy setting up the table on the outside before even getting in the ring. Great to see old school Steiner Brothers again. Greatest brother tag team of all time.
Have the public enemy ever been able to sell to anyone? The dudes are up and walking minutes after taking power moves from Scott Steiner.
That was the worst looking suplex as Rocco over rotated and landed on his rear end.
The match is thrown out after Nasty Boys come in to take out the Public Enemy which pisses off the Steiner Brothers.

Back to another Lethal Lottery Slamboree promo with Mean Gene. I like how they say it is luck of the lottery yet you ahve two teams split and fighting each other, two brothers fighting each other and two enemies teaming. Not even trying to hide the obvious booking.

HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN VS. RIC FLAIR W/ WOMAN & MISS ELIZABETH – WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Hacksaw is at his peak at this point but not even close to world title worthy. Never will be a more beautiful woman in the history of wrestling than Miss Elizabeth. How rude of Hacksaw to just stand there holding his wood.
Flair is so great at making anyone look like a million bucks.
Woman grabbed Duggan by the ears while pinning Flair to cause the DQ so Flair could retain.
Macho Man instantly rushes the ring to get his hands on Flair. Woman and Elizabeth scatter. Macho man chases Flair down but is stopped by Public Enemy and Kevin Sullivan to end the show.
